  • Dr. Charchit Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. He obtained his joint PhD in the field of biomechanics at the Institut Charles Sadron (CNRS), University of Strasbourg (France) and University of Freiburg (Germany). Following his PhD, he was a Postdoctoral Research & Teaching Associate at the Laboratoire ICube (CNRS), University of Strasbourg France. Prior to joining the IIT Madras, he worked as a Research Associate at the James Watt School of Engineering of the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
  • Dr Kumar is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a chartered member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). He is an active member of the IMechE Tribology Group. His research interests include contact mechanics, micro-/nano-textured functional surfaces, additive manufacturing, nano-energy harvesters, biomechanics, soft materials and issues related to electro-mechanical systems.
