  • Dr. N. Arunachalam received his B.E in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy (1994-98), Anna University and his M.E (Manufacturing) from MIT Anna University(1999-2001) further his PhD is from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai during 2010. He worked as a Research Engineer at General Electric, GRC, Bangalore, India for three years from 2011 to 2013 prior to joining IIT Madras.
  • His research interests center around High Performance Manufacturing, which includes
  • Industry 4.0 Implementation and Practices
  • Sensors, Signal processing (Feature extraction & Selection), Model building using machine learning techniques, Decision making models
  • Development of Physics/Data driven Predictive models to assess the process induced damage in grinding, milling, EDM and 3-D printing processes
  • Prognostics and health management of machine tools (PHMMT)
  • Advanced micro and nano level polishing process development
  • Metrology in Production Lines

  1. Merit award for securing the highest mark (99%) in HSC Mathematics subject
  2. Executive Member Society of Mechanical Engineers at College of Engineering Guindy for the year (1997-98)
  3. Expertise award for the contribution in combustor health monitoring project at GE, 2012
  4. Recognized with an award for successfully organizing the PHM conference at GE, JFWTC, 2012
  5. Expertise award for the contribution in PHM project at GE, 2013
  6. Giri Brothers memorial Prize to Mr. Madhav Dubey (M.Tech student of Dr.N.Arunachalam) (Best M.Tech project in Mechanical Engineering for the year July 2015.
  7. Sivasailam Merit Prize Mr.T.K.Balasaravanan for best individual project in B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering for the year 2016 (B.Tech student of Dr.N.Arunachalam).
  8. Subramanian Rajalakshmi Indira (S.R.I) Endowment Prize awarded Mr.T.K.Balasaravanan for best B.Tech student with best Inter-disciplinary project for the year 2016, (B.Tech student of Dr.N.Arunachalam).
  9. T.K.Balasaravanan & N.Arunachalam won Best Student Project Showcase Award for the project titled ” IOT enabled smart CNC milling machine” in ‘Manufacturing Today Summit’ organized by Aditya Birla Group and ITP publishing ,2016.
