Research Mission

To carry out ground breaking and cutting edge research involving modeling of multiscale phenomena, constitutive modeling at micro level, efficient and innovative improvisation of existing simulation techniques, development of new techniques for the solution of the above problems and of optimization algorithms including those involving multiple and conflicting objectives.

Overview

Faculty with CE as their research focus will look at a gamut of problems in a range of fields from fluid flow to heat transfer, combustion, climate control, turbomachinery, materials and manufacturing technologies.

Research Snippets

Several faculty members of the department are already involved in high fidelity simulation involving supersonic combustion and its stability.Modelling and simulation of thermal systems is an area of core competence of several faculty members in fields like solar energy, desalination, IC engine combustion, characterization of azeotropic mixtures, engine systems performance analysis, consistency modeling of asphalt, stress analysis of machine components and in materials.

Optimization studies in heat transfer, atmospheric science and use of optimization in inverse problem like crack detection and structure health monitoring with Non-Destructive Testing are being carried out by several faculty members.

Job Prospects

Students in their final year undergraduate, dual degree students and Masters’ students will be able to take a basket of courses offered in this area that will equip them with knowledge and skills in these cutting edge areas enabling to harness career opportunities in research and development division of public and private sector within and outside the country, national laboratories, defence, space and nuclear establishments and research center of multinational companies within and outside the country. A solid foundation in CE will be a great help for those students seeking a areer in analytics or consulting. Research scholars will be able to take advanced courses on selected topics that will be of direct relevance to their research.
